OIC condemns reported Colombian plan to open embassy in occupied Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, July 16, 2026 (WAFA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the agreement, reported in the media, regarding Colombia's intention to open an embassy in occupied Jerusalem.

The OIC considers this move a regrettable reversal of Colombia's historical positions supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, stressing that such step would harm relations and shared interests between Colombia and OIC member states, as stipulated in OIC resolutions.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the General Secretariat affirmed its rejection of this illegal step, deeming it a flagrant violation of UN resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolutions 476 and 478, which affirm that all Israeli measures aimed at altering the character, legal status, or demographic composition of Jerusalem are null and void. The resolutions also call on states to withdraw their diplomatic missions from the holy city.

The OIC called upon the Colombian government to reverse this illegal decision, support international efforts to achieve peace based on the two-state solution, and uphold its responsibilities under the UN Charter and relevant UN resolutions.
