WASHINGTON, July 8, 2026 (WAFA) – Palestinian rights advocates in the United States have launched a grassroots campaign urging Americans to contact their senators and representatives in Congress to press the Israeli government for the immediate release of Palestinian healthcare workers detained in Israeli prisons.
The campaign calls for the release of 84 healthcare workers from the Gaza Strip, including Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital.
WAFA correspondent reported that the campaign provides participants with the contact information of their members of Congress, along with a template message calling for Abu Safiya's release.
The message states that, since Abu Safiya's detention on December 27, 2024, he has been subjected to torture and ill-treatment in Israeli prisons, including beatings, starvation, and solitary confinement, while the International Committee of the Red Cross has been denied access to visit him.
The campaign also notes that Abu Safiya continued treating patients despite the killing of his son, Ibrahim, during the war, before he was detained following the Israeli military raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital.
It further called on members of Congress to publicly demand the release of Abu Safiya and all detained Palestinian healthcare workers, while rejecting the use of U.S. taxpayers' money to support human rights abuses and the torture of detainees.
