Two killed in Haifa and Reineh raise Arab community homicide toll to 141

HAIFA, Thursday, July 2, 2026 (WAFA) – Two young men were killed early Thursday in separate shooting incidents in the cities of Haifa and Reineh, bringing the death toll from violent crime in the Arab community in Israel since the beginning of the year to 141.

Mohammad Abdel Zeidan, in his 30s, was shot dead shortly after midnight in Reineh, near Nazareth. Several other people sustained injuries of varying severity.

Hours earlier, 18-year-old Jonathan William Khoury was killed and two others were seriously injured in a separate shooting on Hahagana Street in the city of Haifa.

The latest incidents raise to 10 the number of people killed in violent crimes in Arab towns and communities since the beginning of the week, amid a wave of shootings and vehicle bombings reported in several localities.

According to available data, the number of homicide victims in the Arab community since the start of 2026 has now reached 141.

Most of the victims were killed in shooting attacks, while criticism continues to mount over what rights advocates and community leaders describe as the Israeli government's and police's failure to take effective measures to combat organized crime, bring perpetrators to justice, and curb the escalating violence, contributing to a growing sense of insecurity and a steady rise in the number of victims.
