MOSCOW, June 4, 2026 (WAFA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed his country's support for the implementation of United Nations resolutions and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, stressing that a lasting solution is impossible without a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Speaking during a plenary session of the international Russian Energy Week forum, Putin described the ongoing situation as "terrible" and stressed the urgent need to minimize civilian casualties.
He said that while the original vision had been for the creation of two states – Israel and Palestine – the Palestinian state has never been realized, while parts of Palestinian territory remain under Israeli occupation.
Putin warned that any expansion of the conflict could have serious consequences, emphasizing that Russia has consistently supported the implementation of relevant resolutions adopted by the United Nations Security Council, particularly those calling for the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state.
He reiterated that Russia's position on the Palestinian issue has remained unchanged for decades and is not limited to current developments, stressing the need to implement United Nations resolutions and ensure the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
