GAZA, June 2, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestine Red Crescent Society carried out a new medical evacuation operation on Tuesday for patients from the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing, as part of ongoing humanitarian efforts to facilitate treatment abroad for those requiring specialized medical care.
The society said the evacuation included 73 people, comprising 33 patients and 40 companions. The group was assembled at the society's Medical Rehabilitation Hospital before being transported to the Rafah crossing.
The Red Crescent added that its teams handled the organization, transportation, and medical support of the evacuees in coordination with the World Health Organization and relevant health authorities to ensure their safe and orderly passage.
The society said its participation in medical evacuation operations is part of its ongoing humanitarian mission to support patients and facilitate their access to necessary treatment through logistical and medical assistance throughout the transportation process.
The operation comes amid severe challenges facing Gaza's healthcare sector and the continued need to transfer patients, particularly those in critical condition, for treatment at hospitals and specialized medical centers outside the Strip.
Health and humanitarian organizations continue efforts to secure the evacuation of patients in need of specialized treatment as Gaza's healthcare system faces mounting pressure due to the ongoing Israeli offensive, extensive damage to medical infrastructure, and the growing number of wounded and ill patients requiring advanced medical care.
