Tulkarm governor says extension of Israeli aggression on refugee camps deepens suffering of displaced families

TULKARM, May 31, 2026 (WAFA) – Tulkarm Governor Abdullah Kamil said that the Israeli occupation forces’ decision to extend their assault on Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps until July 31, 2026, constitutes a further escalation of violations against citizens and further perpetuates the suffering of thousands of families who have been forcibly displaced.

Kamil stated in a press release that the demolition of homes and commercial facilities, the destruction of infrastructure, and the ongoing bulldozing and acts of vandalism inside the camps reflect a systematic policy targeting the Palestinian people and their resilience, further exacerbating already severe humanitarian and economic conditions.

He added that the continuation of the aggression and the closures imposed on the camps and their surroundings deprive residents of their basic rights and further deepen the hardship of displaced families under the exceptional circumstances prevailing in the governorate.

Kamil renewed his call on international organizations, as well as humanitarian and human rights bodies, to urgently intervene to halt the assault and violations committed against Palestinians, stressing that the ongoing measures against Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps are intensifying the suffering of residents who are facing severe humanitarian and economic conditions due to forced displacement.

He further noted that the impact of these measures is not limited to the camps, but extends across Tulkarm governorate, adversely affecting citizens’ lives, freedom of movement, and economic activity, amid extensive damage to homes, property, and infrastructure.

The governor emphasized the need for the international community to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities toward the Palestinian people, ensure their protection, and put an end to collective punishment policies and ongoing violations against civilians and their property, affirming that the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and their attachment to their land and rights will remain stronger than the occupation and its aggression.
