NAPLES, May 30, 2026 (WAFA) – Diego Maradona Jr., son of the late Argentine football legend Diego Armando Maradona, chanted in support of Palestine during a solidarity football match between the Palestine Stars team and its Italian counterpart, reflecting the humanitarian stance for which his father was known, particularly his support for the Palestinian cause.
The event took place at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in the Italian city of Naples and featured a friendly solidarity match involving several former Palestinian national team players alongside a group of former Italian football stars, in the presence of President of the Palestinian Football Association Jibril Rajoub.
The match witnessed widespread expressions of solidarity with the Palestinian people, as Palestinian flags were raised in the stands and chants in support of freedom and justice echoed throughout the stadium, highlighting the enduring presence of the Palestinian cause among peoples around the world and underscoring the humanitarian role of sport beyond competition.
The event further underscored international solidarity with the Palestinian people, confirming that their cause remains present in various sporting and humanitarian arenas around the world.
The match ended with a 6–2 victory for the Palestine Stars team. At the conclusion, Rajoub honored Maradona Jr., who wore the Palestinian keffiyeh, with a shield presented by the Palestinian Football Association.
