GAZA, May 22, 2026 (WAFA) – An Israeli strike on Friday done killed a Palestinian at al-Skakush area near the so-called yellow line, northwest of Rafah City, according to medical sources at the Nasser Hospital.
They said that the body of Rafat Adel Ibrahim Breika, a 42-year-old sheep herder, arrived at the hospital after being targeted by an Israeli drone strike in the area.
Meanwhile, Israeli artillery shelled eastern Khan Younis and northern Rafah, as intense bombardment targeted eastern and southern Khan Younes.
Israel has waged a military onslaught on the Strip since 7 October 2023, killing 72,775 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring 172,750 others. It has destroyed 90% of the Strip’s infrastructure, with the cost of Gaza reconstruction estimated at $70 billion.
Since the Gaza ceasefire agreement went into effect on October 11, 2025, Israel has killed 883 Palestinians and injured 2,648 others. The bodies of 776 slain Palestinians have been recovered during the same period.
In the last 24 hours, the bodies of two slain Palestinians were admitted to Gaza hospitals along with 27 casualties.
Moreover, at least 10,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.
The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.
