RAMALLAH, May 20, 2026 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Religious Endowments and Affairs condemned the Israeli authorities  for illuminating the walls of the Ibrahimi Mosque with the Israeli flag and Hebrew slogans, coinciding with the holding of noisy celebrations in its courtyards.

The Ministry described this action as a blatant attack on the sanctity of the mosque and the feelings of all Muslims.

In a statement, the Ministry affirmed that the Ibrahimi Mosque is a purely Islamic endowment (waqf) and that no rights to it belong to non-Muslims. It asserted that all the occupation's practices and Judaization measures within the mosque and its courtyards are null and void and illegitimate under international law.

The  violations represent a dangerous attempt to alter the historical features of the mosque and impose a new Judaized reality upon it by force, the Ministry added.

The Ministry called upon the international community and human rights organizations to intervene urgently to stop the ongoing violations against Islamic holy sites.

The Ministry also issued an urgent appeal to the Palestinian people to continue maintaining a presence at the mosque, as a first line of defense to protect it and preserve its Islamic and Arab identity in the face of the occupation's schemes.
