President Abbas casts vote in Fatah leadership elections in Ramallah

RAMALLAH, May 16, 2026 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas cast his vote on Saturday morning in the elections for the movement’s Central Committee and Revolutionary Council at the Ahmad Shuqairi Hall in the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

The President emphasized the importance of ensuring the success of the democratic process in a way that reflects the unity of the movement and its commitment to renewing its leadership institutions.

He stressed that holding elections for the Central Committee and Revolutionary Council of Fatah reflects a firm commitment to strengthening the democratic process, saying: “This year is the year of democracy. We held an important conference for the Fatah youth, followed by the holding of local elections last April.”

“Today is the Eighth Conference of Fatah, and we are preparing for the elections of the National Council in November, as well as the general and presidential elections, starting with the drafting of the constitution, the political parties law, and the general elections law,” he continued.

Voting for the Central Committee and Revolutionary Council began at 10:00 a.m. and is scheduled to continue until 4:00 p.m., followed immediately by vote counting and the announcement of results, leading to the conference’s final statement.

The Eighth General Conference of Fatah is scheduled to conclude on Saturday with the announcement of final election results after two days of sessions held in Ramallah, Gaza, Cairo, and Beirut, with the participation of around 2,580 movement members.
