HEBRON, May 14, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities carried out construction work on Thursday on the roof of the historic Hebron Municipality building in the Ein Al-Askar area of the Old City of Hebron.
According to Hebron Municipality, the old municipal building, which has been closed under an Israeli military order for years, is considered one of the important historical and national landmarks in the Old City, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The municipality said any alteration or assault on the building constitutes a clear violation of international conventions and norms related to the protection of cultural and human heritage.
It added that the construction work is part of efforts to impose a new reality in violation of local and international laws and falls within ongoing settlement expansion policies targeting Hebron, its holy sites, and historic buildings.
The Hebron Municipal Council called on international institutions and human rights organizations to intervene immediately to stop the latest measures and prevent attempts to alter the historical and cultural identity of the Old City.
The council also affirmed its full rejection of such practices and violations, stressing that it will pursue the case through all available local and international legal channels to halt the measures and hold those responsible accountable.
