Spanish PM reaffirms support for two-state solution at Fatah Conference

MADRID, May 14, 2026 (WAFA) – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said  that the eighth conference of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) is being held under extremely difficult circumstances facing the Palestinian people and the region, stressing the need for responsibility, unity, and political leadership.

In a recorded speech delivered on Thursday on behalf of the Socialist International, Sánchez expressed appreciation and solidarity on the occasion of the conference.

He added that a deep-rooted historical relationship unites the Socialist International and Fatah, embodied in cooperation with its historical leaders, represented by the late President Yasser Arafat and the current President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, whom he said worked toward a negotiated settlement aimed at achieving peace, stability, and prosperity for the Palestinian people.

He reiterated the firm commitment to reaching a just and lasting solution based on international law, noting that the two-state solution remains the political framework for achieving this goal.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening political leadership and collective action in the face of current challenges, emphasizing the continued work to deepen dialogue and international cooperation in pursuit of peace, justice, and dignity for the Palestinian people.

The Spanish Prime Minister wished the Fatah movement conference success and good fortune, and renewing his full solidarity with the Palestinian people.
