NEW YORK, May 3, 2026 (WAFA) – The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said that the Gaza Strip is the deadliest place in the world for journalists.
In a post on X on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the office called on the world to move beyond words of condemnation and solidarity, stressing the need for accountability, the protection of journalists, and ensuring independent access for international media.
Meanwhile, UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk said that the war in Gaza has become a death trap for the media, noting that the Office has verified the killing of nearly 300 journalists since October 2023, in addition to many others who were injured.
