EU announces €9.29 million in support of Palestinian medical referrals to East Jerusalem hospitals

JERUSALEM, April 28, 2026 (WAFA) – The European Union Representative, Alexander Stutzmann, announced at Augusta Victoria Hospital the disbursement of €9.29 million to support Palestinian medical referrals to East Jerusalem hospitals through the EU's PEGASE mechanism, with funding from Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, and Switzerland.

This support comes at a critical time, as East Jerusalem hospitals continue to provide essential specialized care amidst increasing financial pressures.

Since 2013, the European Union, its Member States, and its partners have provided more than €225 million for this purpose.

The EU reaffirms its commitment to ensuring Palestinian access to healthcare and supporting the Palestinian Authority, and calls for the urgent reopening of Gaza crossings to allow the entry of medical supplies and the evacuation of patients.
