JERUSALEM, March 21, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities forced a Palestinian resident on Saturday to self-demolish part of his home in the town of Sur Baher in occupied Jerusalem.
According to the Jerusalem Governorate, Ahmad Hamed Bkeirat began demolishing an added section of his house measuring about 80 square meters, in compliance with a demolition order issued by the Israeli municipality last Sunday, which gave him ten days to carry it out.
The homeowner carried out the demolition to avoid paying the heavy demolition costs imposed by the Jerusalem Municipality if its crews carried out the process.
The governorate explained that the targeted section had been built around ten years ago and was home to Beikrat and his wife. He had previously paid more than $10,000 in fines to the municipality and had pursued licensing procedures, but Israeli authorities insisted on the demolition order.
The forced demolition came at a time when the resident had expected to spend the days leading up to Eid al-Fitr with his family, but Israeli restrictions and orders compelled him to demolish part of his home himself to avoid additional financial burdens.
