Young man shot, injured by colonists in Masafer Yatta south of Hebron

HEBRON, February 28, 2026 (WAFA) – A young Palestinian man was injured by live gunfire today, Saturday, during an attack by colonists on Palestinian residents’ homes in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron, according to a local activist.

Anti-colonial-settlement activist Osama Makhamareh told WAFA that a Palestinian resident was shot in the hand by live ammunition during an armed colonists’ attack in Masafer Yatta, carried out under the protection of Israeli forces.

The injured man was taken to the hospital, where his injury was described as moderate, while others sustained bruises and contusions that were treated on site.

Makhamareh added that colonists attacked residents from the Makhamareh and Awad families in Asafi and Maghayir al-'Abid hamlets in Masafer Yatta while they were grazing their livestock, beating them and attempting to steal their animals.

Israeli forces also raided homes in the hamlet of Asfi and detained residents. In the hamlet of Aqwais, colonists chased shepherds and fired shots toward them, with no injuries reported.

Colonists additionally raided several homes in the village of Halawa in Masafer Yatta, causing destruction and damaging quantities of fermented, dried yogurt.
