Palestinian Central Elections Commission launches digital election integrity initiative

RAMALLAH, February 22, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Central Elections Commission announced on Sunday the launch of the “Alliance for Election Information Verification and Digital Rights,” a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the integrity of the digital electoral environment and protecting Palestinian cyberspace from misinformation and election-related content violations.

According to the commission, the alliance brings together the Palestinian Observatory for Fact-Checking and Media Education (Tahaqaq), the Tayaqan Platform, and the digital rights institutions 7amleh and Sada Social. The collaborative framework ensures clear role division, independence, and adherence to transparency, editorial, and technical standards.

The commission stated that the alliance addresses challenges in digital electoral spaces, including the spread of misleading content, hate speech, political ads, and platform policy issues. Its work focuses on combating misinformation by monitoring and debunking false or misleading information affecting voters or electoral integrity, protecting digital rights by documenting violations, monitoring content restrictions or removals, countering hate speech and incitement, and enhancing ad transparency by tracking political ads and ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.

The alliance also includes a dedicated hotline for real-time coordination between the commission and partner organizations, joint awareness campaigns to strengthen public verification skills, and the production of a comprehensive post-election report analyzing digital trends during candidate registration, campaigning, and voting, with recommendations for future improvements.

The commission emphasized that the alliance reflects institutional integration among relevant entities and a commitment to professional independence free from political or partisan influence, reinforcing public confidence in the electoral process in its digital dimension.

The commission described the initiative as a sustainable model for safeguarding the digital environment of democratic practice in Palestine and fostering a culture of accountability and transparency in elections.
