Israel announces heightened military measures across the West Bank and Jerusalem ahead of Ramadan

RAMALLAH, February 18, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli sources announced several military measures taken by the occupation army in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, describing it as an unprecedented state of high alert.

According to Hebrew media reports, Israeli forces have been reinforced in the West Bank, while thousands of police officers are set to be deployed throughout Jerusalem, particularly at the gates of the Old City, on main roads, and around the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

The hours allotted for colonists to storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque have also been extended by one additional hour with the beginning of Ramadan, bringing the total daily incursion period to five hours.

Israeli authorities have imposed restriction on the entry of worshippers from the West Bank into Jerusalem.  They further had recommended limiting the number of worshippers allowed to enter Jerusalem and imposing age restrictions, especially on Fridays, when tens of thousands are expected to arrive at Al-Aqsa.

The Israeli army also announced the intensification of preemptive measures, including arrests on suspicion of what it calls "incitement, monitoring social media networks, operating an operations room to monitor calls for violence or attempts to organize unusual gatherings.

The army further said that it would continue pursuing workers and preventing their entry, by closing several roads north of occupied Jerusalem near the apartheid wall.
