Israeli colonists attack Armenian Church entrance as Israeli forces escalate raids in occupied Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, February 8, 2026 (WAFA) – The entrance to the Armenian Church in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem witnessed a new attack carried out by Israeli colonists on Sunday. Surveillance camera footage and eyewitness testimonies showed several colonists deliberately spitting in front of the church entrance, in a provocative act that violates freedom of worship and targets Christian holy sites.

According to local sources, Israeli forces stormed the town of Al-Issawiya, northeast of occupied Jerusalem, and also raided the Al-Bustan neighborhood in the town of Silwan, south of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. The forces deployed throughout the streets and neighborhoods, creating heightened tension among residents.

The sources added that the Israeli municipality in Jerusalem imposed a fine of 5,000 shekels on the director of the post office in Silwan, claiming he had failed to display a "No Smoking" sign, despite its presence inside the office. This move was seen as part of a policy of administrative harassment targeting of Palestinian institutions.

In a related incident, Israeli forces raided shops in the Ain al-Lawza neighborhood of Silwan, checking the IDs of employees. The raids disrupted commercial activity and caused damage to local businesses.

These attacks come as part of a series of ongoing violations targeting the holy city and its residents, amid escalating aggression by the occupation and its colonists against Palestinian holy sites and neighborhoods.
