Medical sources: Thousands of patients in Gaza face an unknown fate amid health system collapse

GAZA, February 7, 2026 (WAFA) – Medical sources in the Gaza Strip reported that thousands of patients and wounded individuals are facing an unknown fate due to the collapse of the healthcare system.

They said that the few hospitals still operating in Gaza, struggling to maintain services, have become mere waiting stations for thousands of patients and injured people whose future remain uncertain.

They added that the catastrophic effects of this "health annihilation" have made the continuation of healthcare a daily miracle and a major challenge to recovery efforts and the restoration of many specialized services.

According to sources,  the sever shortage of medicines and medical supplies has turned even the simplest painkillers into a luxury unaffordable for those facing death every minute. At a time when 46% of essential medicines, 66% of medical supplies, and 84% of laboratory and blood bank materials are completely out of stock.

The sources noted that cancer, hematology, surgery, operations, intensive care, and primary care services are among the most affected by the crisis. The limited quantities of medicines reaching the Strip's hospitals are insufficient to meet the actual needs for the continuation of healthcare services.

"Rescuing the health situation in Gaza’s hospitals cannot be achieved through temporary emergency solutions that accumulate serious consequences."
