Israel cuts off water and electricity to UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem

TEL AVIV, February 4, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen said Wednesday that he would personally oversee the cutting off of water and electricity to the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem.

Cohen stated in a press conference, "I am now on my way to East Jerusalem to personally witness the cutting off of water and electricity to its headquarters."

The Israeli Knesset (parliament) decided at the end of 2025 to cut off water and electricity to UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem, after deciding in late 2024 to prevent the UN agency from operating in East Jerusalem and Israel.

Israel forced UNRWA to evacuate its main headquarters in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem at the beginning of 2025, before seizing the premises and beginning demolition work.
