JERUSALEM, February 1, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities forced a Palestinian citizen to demolish his own home on Sunday in the neighborhood of Jabal Al-Mukaber, southeast of occupied Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Governorate reported that Yasser Maher Daana was compelled to tear down his house in the Salaa neighborhood, citing construction without a permit. The home, which shelters four family members, measures approximately 100 square meters.
Israeli authorities routinely compel Palestinian residents, particularly in occupied Jerusalem, to demolish their own homes under the pretext of lacking permits. Those who refuse face demolition carried out by Israeli bulldozers and are charged heavy fees.
The Israeli municipality in Jerusalem systematically denies Palestinians building permits, forcibly demolishes homes, and enforces policies that violate international law and human rights, including the right to adequate housing.
These practices are part of a broader strategy to displace Palestinians from the city while expanding colonial Israeli settlements in Jerusalem and its surroundings.
