Israeli forces continue closure of Turmus Ayya entrance, shut down checkpoint north of Ramallah

RAMALLAH, February 1, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces continued, for the second consecutive day on Sunday, to close the main entrance to the town of Turmus Ayya, north of Ramallah, according to local sources.

The sources said the occupation has kept the town's main entrance sealed since Saturday, severely disrupting residents' movement in and out of the town and hindering daily life.

The closure comes as part of repeated Israeli measures aimed at tightening restrictions on Palestinians and obstructing their freedom of movement.

Meantime, Israeli forces closed the Atara military checkpoint north of Ramallah early Sunday morning. WAFA correspondent reported that the checkpoint has been shut since the early hours, causing major traffic congestion and delaying thousands of citizens commuting to their workplaces, schools, and medical facilities.

Israeli forces routinely close military checkpoints at the entrances of towns and villages, particularly during the early morning hours, as part of a broader policy that restricts Palestinian movement across the occupied West Bank.

According to a report by the Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, the number of Israeli military checkpoints and gates across the occupied Palestinian territory has reached 916, including 243 gates installed after 7 October 2023.
