GAZA, January 31, 2026 (WAFA) – Although a ceasefire in Gaza went into effect on October 11, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has continued to rise, reaching 71,769, mostly women and children, since the beginning of the Israeli aggression in October 2023. Meanwhile, more than 171,251 Palestinians have also been injured.
This toll remains incomplete, as many victims remain trapped under rubble, inaccessible to ambulance and rescue crews, due to the massive destruction and the absence of vital and basic supplies.
Medical sources said that during the past 48 hours, 17 Palestinian civilians have been killed, including 12 new fatalities since early morning hours, along with 49 injured persons.
Since the ceasefire went into effect on October 11, the number of those killed and injured has reached 509 and 1,405, respectively. At least 715 bodies have also been recovered.
To be noted, 85 slain Palestinians were added to the cumulative toll after their records were finalized and formally approved by the committee responsible for verifying those killed, covering the period from December 26, 2025, to January 2, 2026.
