Israeli forces attack residents with tear gas near Qalandia camp, raid al-Issawiya north of occupied Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, January 29, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces on Thursday fired tear gas canisters at Palestinians on the Airport (Al-Matar) Street near Qalandia refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem, according to local sources.

Sources reported that Israeli forces raided the Airport Street and fired tear gas canisters at residents present in the area, with no injuries reported.

An Israeli army unit also raided the town of al-Issawiya, northeast of occupied Jerusalem; however, no detentions or confrontations were reported.

Since last Monday, the Israeli army has been carrying out an extensive military operation north of occupied Jerusalem, targeting the town of Kafr ‘Aqab and the vicinity of Qalandia refugee camp under the guise of reinforcing control over the separation wall, during which Palestinian structures were demolished.

According to the Jerusalem Governorate, this operation comes as part of a systematic policy to tighten colonial control over the surroundings of Jerusalem, in light of claims in recent official Israeli reports acknowledging the existence of wide gaps in the wall’s route, particularly around the city, which the occupation exploits as a pretext to intensify its military and punitive measures against citizens.

The Jerusalem Governorate confirmed that the demolition works carried out by occupation forces on the Airport Street near Qalandia refugee camp are being implemented on plot No. (1), adjacent to the UNRWA’s Qalandia Training Centre. The land is officially registered in the land registry under the name “Airport Lands – Treasury of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.”
