Despite ceasefire, Gaza death toll continues to rise, reaching 71,662 since October 2023

GAZA, January 3, 2026 (WAFA) – Although a ceasefire in Gaza went into effect on October 11, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has continued to rise, reaching 71,662, mostly women and children, since the beginning of the Israeli aggression in October 2023. At least 171,428 others have also been injured.

This toll remains incomplete, as many victims remain trapped under rubble, inaccessible to ambulance and rescue crews.

Medical sources reported that over the past 24 hours, two people were killed and nine others were injured by Israeli gunfire.

Since the ceasefire went into effect on October 11, the number of those killed and injured has reached 488 and 1,350, respectively. At least 714 bodies have also been recovered from under the rubble.

A twelve-day-old infant also died at Al-Rantisi Hospital as a result of severe cold, bringing the number of child deaths due to cold since the beginning of the winter season to 11.
