Occupation forces close checkpoint, erect military barrier at entrance to Ramallah-area village

RAMALLAH, January 26, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces closed the Atara military checkpoint and erected a new checkpoint at the entrance to Nabi Saleh, north of Ramallah, on Monday morning.

WAFA correspondent reported that the occupation forces closed the Atara checkpoint in the early morning hours, causing significant disruption to the movement of Palestinian citizens.

Simultaneously, the occupation forces erected a checkpoint at the entrance to Nabi Saleh, stopping several vehicles and checking the IDs of Palestinian citizens. This caused a severe traffic jam, as the entrance serves the villages of Bani Zeid al-Gharbiya (Beit Rima, Deir Ghassana, Kafr Ein, and Qarawa), as well as the city of Salfit and some of its surrounding villages.

It is worth noting that these forces routinely close military checkpoints at the entrances to villages and towns, particularly in the early morning hours, obstructing the movement of Palestinian citizens.

According to a report issued by the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, the number of military checkpoints and gates in the Palestinian territories reached 916, including 243 gates that were erected after October 7, 2023.
