RAMALLAH, January 24, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian General Authority of Civil Affairs said Israeli occupation authorities have retracted an earlier report claiming that Palestinian youth Ammar Majed Hijazi was shot dead, confirming that he was resuscitated after being shot and is receiving treatment at Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem, where his condition has been described as very critical.
In a brief statement, the authority said it is closely following the case with the relevant bodies and will update the public on any developments as soon as they are received from official sources.
Israeli forces had earlier opened direct fire at Hijazi on Sunday morning while he was driving his vehicle near Uyoun Al-Haramiya junction, north of Ramallah, and subsequently detained him.
The authority noted that Israeli occupation authorities frequently manipulate public sentiment by announcing the death of Palestinian citizens who are in fact wounded, or by releasing incorrect names and figures regarding those killed or injured.
It added that this often occurs while Palestinian ambulances are prevented from reaching the wounded to provide treatment or even determine the nature of their injuries, and while bodies are withheld.
