RAMALLAH, January 22, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) stated that the Israeli prison system has transformed winter into a systematic tool of torture against prisoners and detainees through a policy of continuous deprivation of basic necessities, primarily clothing and heating.

This exacerbates their physical and psychological suffering, leading to the spread of diseases and weakening their bodies.

In a statement issued today, Thursday, PPS explained that since the beginning of the genocide, the policy of stripping prisoners and detainees of their personal belongings, including clothing and all basic necessities, has been one of the first arbitrary measures taken by the Israeli prison system. This policy, initially implemented as a tool of collective punishment and systematic revenge, has evolved over time into a method of organized physical and psychological torture.

It added that, more than two years after the genocide and the comprehensive aggression that targeted prisoners and detainees, and which turned prisons into a parallel field of genocide, the prison system continues to use all kinds of tools to subdue and torture prisoners.

The concept of torture is no longer confined to the internationally recognized framework, but it has become impossible to limit its tools and methods, in light of an integrated repressive system that led to the martyrdom of more than one hundred prisoners and detainees, 87 of whose identities were announced, while the rest are still subject to the crime of enforced disappearance.
