BETHLEHEM, January 20, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces closed on Tuesday evening the Container military checkpoint, northeast of Bethlehem, according to security sources.

Sources told WAFA that Israeli forces closed the military checkpoint in both directions and prevented the passage of vehicles, causing severe congestion that extended for long distances and reached the outskirts of Al-‘Ubeidiya to the east and As Sawahira ash Sharqiya.

The Israeli occupation has intensified its military measures in the West Bank, erecting checkpoints and installing iron gates at the entrances of Palestinian towns and cities.

According to the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, the number of military checkpoints and iron gates set up by the occupation across the West Bank has reached 898. This includes 18 gates installed since the beginning of 2025 and 146 gates erected after October 7, 2023.
