Occupation forces continue aggression against southern Hebron: closures, raids, searches, field interrogations, and infrastructure damage

HEBRON, January 20, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces continued the aggression against the southern area of Hebron for the second consecutive day.

WAFA correspondent reported that occupation forces, reinforced with military personnel, continued raiding into the southern area in large numbers. This included closing most of the main and secondary roads, separating neighborhoods with earth mounds and concrete blocks, and carrying out extensive raids and searches targeting citizens' homes and shops.

Dozens of citizens were subjected to field interrogations, and damage was inflicted on the area's infrastructure.

Security sources told WAFA that the occupation forces informed residents that this aggression would continue for several months if they did not comply with the issued instructions.

For its part, the Hebron Municipality explained that these developments cannot be separated from the context of successive colonial events targeting the Old City and the Ibrahimi Mosque, accompanied by continuous escalation and the consolidation of a new settlement reality.

It considered this systematic escalation a reflection of a policy of imposing a new reality on the ground, increasing tension, and undermining the foundations of a safe life for citizens, amidst ongoing violations against the city, its residents, and its holy sites.

The Municipality called upon all international and human rights organizations to assume their responsibilities and to intervene urgently to stop these violations, protect civilians, and preserve the historical and religious character of the Old City and the Ibrahimi Mosque.

Yesterday, the occupation forces imposed a complete closure on several neighborhoods in the southern part of the city, including: Sarsouriya, Jabal Jawhar, Al-Kasara, Khallat al-Qubba, Wadi al-Baqar, the area surrounding Tariq Bin Zayed School, Al-Mukhtar Roundabout, and the road leading to Al-Ikhwa School.

They also erected an iron gate at the Mukhtar roundabout and another at the entrance to Sarsouriya, and arrested a number of citizens after searching their homes and severely beating them.

These forces also blocked several entrances connecting the southern neighborhoods with concrete blocks, earth mounds, and civilian vehicles, and occupied the rooftops of several houses, turning them into military outposts.
