GAZA, January 17, 2026 (WAFA) – A baby girl died Tuesday morning in Gaza City due to the extreme cold.
Medical sources reported that seven-month-old Shatha Abu Jarad died in Gaza City due to the severe cold.
With the death of Abu Jarad, the number of children who have died in the Gaza Strip due to the extreme cold since the beginning of winter has risen to nine, amid a shortage of aid and a lack of heating.
The same sources indicated that the incident reflects the severity of the humanitarian situation in the Strip, especially for children and displaced people living in flimsy tents ill-equipped to withstand the cold weather.
Residents of the Gaza Strip are suffering from a lack of shelter and medical care, and a lack of heating due to fuel shortages, amidst a stormy, cold, and rainy weather system.
