Tulkarm governor briefs British support delegation on conditions in the governorate amid ongoing Israeli aggression

TULKARM, January 6, 2026 (WAFA) – Tulkarm Governor Abdullah Kmeil briefed a British military official leading a support delegation on the situation in Tulkarm Governorate, in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression and its continued violations, including the forced displacement of citizens in the Tulkarm refugee camp and Nur Shams refugee camp, in addition to colonists’ attacks against citizens and the difficult conditions facing the governorate.

This came during a visit by the British support delegation to Tulkarm, attended by the Director of the Military Liaison in Tulkarm, Colonel Zaher Abu Shamat.

Governor Kmeil conveyed the greetings of President Mahmoud Abbas, praising the British position in support of the Palestinian people and the recognition of the independent State of Palestine. He stressed the importance of inaugurating the State of Palestine’s embassy in London and highlighted the role of Ambassador Husam Zomlot and his diplomatic efforts in this regard.

Kmeil reviewed the extensive damage inflicted on the governorate as a result of the occupation’s home demolitions, destruction, and infrastructure damage, as well as the severe humanitarian and living conditions endured by residents of the Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps due to the continued Israeli aggression and forced displacement. He emphasized that these circumstances require intervention by international and human rights institutions to halt the aggression.

He also addressed the difficult economic situation in Tulkarm Governorate as a result of ongoing closures, the inability of Palestinians from the 1948 territories to access the governorate, and the forced disruption of workers’ employment, which has negatively affected various economic sectors, in addition to the impact of Israel’s withholding of Palestinian tax revenues.

Governor Kmeil stressed the importance of intensifying efforts by all relevant parties to support legitimate Palestinian rights to freedom and independence and the establishment of the independent Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital, as well as improving economic conditions and easing the severity of the crisis amid the exceptional circumstances facing the governorate.

For his part, the British military official said that the delegation is following developments and related issues, noting that the visit to Tulkarm comes within the framework of field tours aimed at reviewing the situation firsthand.
