Despite ceasefire, Gaza death toll continues to rise, reaching 71,384 since October 2023

GAZA, January 3, 2026 (WAFA) – Although a ceasefire in Gaza went into effect on October 11, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has continued to rise, reaching 71,384, mostly women and children, since the beginning of the Israeli aggression in October 2023. At least 171,251 others have also been injured.

This toll remains incomplete, as many victims remain trapped under rubble, inaccessible to ambulance and rescue crews.

Medical sources said that during the past 48 hours, three bodies, including one that was recovered from under rubble, were brought to hospitals in Gaza, along with 18 injured persons.

Since the ceasefire went into effect on October 11, the number of those killed and injured has reached 418 and 1,171, respectively. At least 684 bodies have also been recovered.

To be noted, 110 slain Palestinians were added to the cumulative toll after their records were finalized and formally approved by the committee responsible for verifying those killed, covering the period from December 26, 2025, to January 2, 2026.
