Israeli forces detain citizens west of Hebron, raid al-Fawwar camp

HEBRON, January 2, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces detained several Palestinian residents on Friday evening in the town of Beit Awwa, and raided al-Fawwar refugee camp to the north.

Israeli forces positioned at the military tower and the iron gate separating the town of Beit Awwa from the village of As Sikka detained dozens of citizens as they were returning from an engagement ceremony, barring them from returning to their town.

The mayor of Beit Awwa, Youssef al-Sweiti, stated that the gate, which has been closed for over two years, has become a source of humiliation for citizens, severing communication between communities and intensifying the suffering of residents who are forced to use alternative, dirt roads.

In al-Fawwar refugee camp, confrontations erupted between youths and Israeli forces that raided the camp and fired live ammunition and sound bombs at citizens and youths, with no injuries or detentions reported.
