Palestinian detainee dies in Israeli prison in Naqab

RAMALLAH, January 1, 2025 (WAFA) – Palestinian detainee Hassan Issa al-Qash'ala, from the town of Rahat in the Naqab region, died on Thursday evening inside the Israeli prison of Be'er Sheva.

Al-Qash'ala had been imprisoned for over 13 months, with his release initially scheduled to take place six months ago.

His death comes amid a sharp rise in reports of fatalities among Palestinian detainees, particularly since the onset of the Israeli military’s ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people, which began in October 2023.

With the continued abuses taking place inside Israeli prisons, the number of deaths among Palestinian detainees is expected to rise. Thousands of prisoners are being held in dire conditions that lack even the most basic necessities of life, and they are subjected to systematic abuse on a daily basis.

Among the most common abuses inflicted on prisoners are torture, starvation, physical assaults, medical neglect, sexual abuse, and deliberate exposure to dangerous and contagious diseases, including scabies. In addition, prisoners are subjected to unprecedented policies of confiscation and deprivation.

The increasing number of deaths among detainees since the start of the genocide campaign against the Palestinian people serves as a clear indication of these ongoing abuses. The number of recognized Palestinian fatalities in Israeli custody has surpassed 100 since October 2023, including those who died in prison or after being transferred to Israeli hospitals.
