JERUSALEM, December 17, 2025 (WAFA) –Israeli occupation authorities delivered eviction notices on Wednesday to Palestinian citizen Khalil Basbous and his son, Bilal, ordering them to vacate their two homes in the Batn al-Hawa neighborhood of Silwan, located south of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The family has been given until the fifth of next month to leave their properties to make way for the Ateret Cohanim colony association.
The eviction is being carried out under the pretext of alleged "Jewish ownership" of the land upon which the houses are built.
Local sources reported that eight family members, including several children, currently live in the two homes. This action is part of a broader policy aimed at emptying the neighborhood of its Palestinian residents to facilitate settlement expansion.
There are now fears regarding the displacement of the family and the violation of their fundamental right to housing.
In a related incident in the same neighborhood, colonists under the protection of occupation forces seized the homes belonging to brothers Nasser and Ayed al-Rajabi and their mother.
The colonists raised the Israeli flag over the buildings just days after the family was forcibly evicted from their property for the benefit of the Ateret Cohanim association.
The Batn al-Hawa neighborhood in Silwan is currently experiencing a dangerous escalation in forced evictions and property seizures. These events are part of an extensive colonial plan designed to change the demographic character of the area and impose a new reality by force.
