RAMALLAH, December 11, 2025 (WAFA) – Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Amjad Barham met today with UNESCO Director-General Dr. Khaled Al-Anani.
During the meeting, Dr. Barham briefed Dr. Al-Anani on ongoing Israeli violations against the education sector, including recent attacks by occupation forces on the campuses of Birzeit University and Al-Quds University, which targeted academic facilities and cultural landmarks.
The discussion also addressed the Palestinian government’s programs aimed at expanding educational opportunities, modernizing curricula, and aligning them with global standards.
Both sides explored mechanisms to further strengthen cooperation between the State of Palestine and UNESCO in support of the Ministry’s efforts to enhance the education system and ensure students have access to quality learning despite the difficult conditions on the ground.
They underscored the importance of continued joint work to harmonize Palestinian curricula with UNESCO frameworks, promote a culture of peace and human values, and safeguard Palestinian cultural and educational heritage.
Deputy Minister Dr. Nafieh Assaf and Palestine’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Ambassador Adel Attia, also attended the meeting.
