Mustafa: Government consulting Central Elections Committee to hold local council elections

RAMALLAH, November 25, 2025 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, at the start of the weekly government session on Tuesday, affirmed that the government is consulting with the Central Elections Committee to ensure that local council elections are conducted in compliance with the presidential decree stipulating that the elections take place within six months from the date of the law’s issuance.

Mustafa reiterated the government’s commitment to the unity of Palestinian territories, the cohesion of state institutions, and the solidarity of the Palestinian people wherever they reside.

Speaking at the opening of the session, the prime minister said, “Based on our unwavering commitment to the reform path adopted by the government with the support of the President from day one, and in line with the State of Palestine’s vision to strengthen political life and reinforce democratic practices, the government is consulting with the Central Elections Committee to ensure the implementation of local council elections."

He continued, "This follows the President’s issuance last Wednesday, November 19, of the law aimed at developing local governance institutions, which are closest to citizens and form a key pillar in our national work under the framework of official state institutions."

"As we move forward, we reaffirm our commitment to the unity of Palestinian territories, the cohesion of state institutions, and the solidarity of our people across all areas," Mustafa added.

Mustafa also addressed the continued Israeli non-compliance with signed agreements, particularly regarding economic provisions, the ongoing withholding of clearance funds for the seventh consecutive month, the escalating restrictions on commercial activities, and the flooding of the market with low-quality goods that undermine the national economy.

He noted that, following Cabinet Resolution No. 14 during session 84 on November 11, 2025, the cabinet will study today the adoption of specific measures recommended by the Ministry of National Economy and the previously formed committee to protect the Palestinian economy amid Israel’s ongoing disregard for internationally supervised agreements.
