Arab League Secretary-General: UNSC resolution marks beginning toward realizing Palestinian state

CAIRO, November 18, 2025 (WAFA) – Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said that the UN Security Council resolution adopted on ending the war in the Gaza Strip represents the beginning of a path that must ultimately lead to the realization of the Palestinian state, stressing that extensive work on all levels will be required in the coming period to translate the resolution’s elements into tangible reality that is reflected on the lives of the Palestinian people.

Aboul Gheit said in a statement issued today that the resolution reflected an international commitment to the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which has endured destruction rarely witnessed in modern history.

He added that the resolution also included a key reference to a credible path leading to the establishment of the Palestinian state, expressing his hope that all parties committed to the two-state solution will join efforts to turn this commitment into concrete progress toward realizing an independent Palestinian state and ending the Israeli occupation, noting that the continuation of the occupation remains the core of the problem and the source of instability in the region.

He also expressed hope for swiftly moving toward the implementation of the second phase of the 20-point plan, and that the recent Security Council resolution will ensure the occupying power’s adherence to allowing the entry of humanitarian aid and essential materials required for the reconstruction process.
