Gaza: Heavy rainfall deepens suffering of displaced families, flooding thousands of tents

GAZA, November 15, 2025 (WAFA) – Heavy rains on Friday and Saturday morning flooded thousands of tents belonging to displaced people in the Gaza Strip, soaking clothes, bedding, and few remaining possessions, further intensifying their daily suffering that has persisted since the start of the Israeli offensive on the Strip on October 7, 2023.

The offensive destroyed 92% of residential buildings in the Strip, either completely or partially, forcing the majority of residents to seek refuge in tents that offer no protection from the summer heat or winter cold, or to live in their damaged homes, despite the risk of collapse due to the floods and rain.

UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric expressed his concern that "thousands of displaced families are now completely exposed to harsh weather conditions, increasing concerns related to health and protection."

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that partners working to provide shelter support have deployed rapid response teams and have been working for weeks to mitigate the impact of the expected rains on the population throughout Gaza.

The office reported that last Thursday alone, about 1,000 tents were distributed to families in Deir al-Balah and Khan Yunis, and that between Sunday and Wednesday, partners provided about 7,000 blankets to more than 1,800 families, about 15,000 tarpaulins to more than 3,700 families, and winter clothing to more than 500 families.
