Israeli authorities announce plan to build two buildings on former Hebron vegetable market site

HEBRON, November 3, 2025 (WAFA) – The Hebron Municipality confirmed on Monday that the Israeli authorities, through the Planning and Construction Committee of the so-called Israeli Civil Administration, announced a new colonial plan to construct two buildings on the central vegetable market land belonging to the Hebron Municipality.

The plan includes the construction of 63 residential units distributed across two six-storey buildings above ground with two basement floors for parking, in addition to a third three-storey building housing classrooms, a library, and a synagogue. The total planned construction area is estimated at approximately 12,500 square meters.

The Hebron Municipality strongly rejected and condemned the decision, describing it as a blatant violation of its jurisdiction, a clear infringement on the interests of the city and its residents, and a violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits the seizure, exploitation, or demolition of Palestinian property without justification.

The municipality affirmed that it will take all available legal measures to challenge the decision within the specified deadline, to safeguard citizens’ rights and protect the public interest of the city.

It also called on the international community, human rights organizations, and UNESCO to intervene immediately to stop these repeated attacks on Palestinian property and to ensure the protection of the rights of the Hebron Municipality and the city’s residents.
