Ceasefire agreement to end war in Gaza reached

WASHINGTON, October 9, 2025 (WAFA) – An agreement was announced tonight to cease the war on the Gaza Strip.

According to international news agencies, the agreement stipulates an end to the war on Gaza, the withdrawal of the occupation forces, the entry of humanitarian aid, and the exchange of prisoners.

US President Donald Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform, "We announce the signing of the first phase of the peace plan, as the first steps towards a lasting peace, and we thank all the mediators who worked to achieve this event."

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that an agreement had been reached on all the terms and mechanisms for implementing the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, leading to an end to the war, the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and the entry of aid.

On September 29th, President Trump to end the war in the Gaza Strip announced a plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip and achieve peace in the Middle East, President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas immediately praised Trump's significant efforts.

At the time, he affirmed the State of Palestine's readiness to work constructively with President Trump, all concerned partners, the co-chairs of the International Peace Conference in New York, the heads of the working groups, the Arab member of the Security Council, Algeria, and all members of the Security Council and the General Assembly, to achieve stability and a just and lasting peace in accordance with international law.

The President emphasized, "What matters to us now is an immediate commitment to a complete ceasefire, the release of all hostages and prisoners, the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid through United Nations organizations, ensuring the prevention of displacement or annexation, and the commencement of the reconstruction process."

President Abbas affirmed that sovereignty over the Gaza Strip belongs to the State of Palestine, and that the connection between the West Bank and Gaza Strip must be achieved through Palestinian laws and governmental institutions, through a Palestinian administrative committee and unified Palestinian security forces, within the framework of a single system and law, and with Arab and international support.

The President added, "We will continue to work with relevant mediators and partners to ensure the success of these efforts, leading to the achievement of a lasting peace that ends the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital."

He reminded "the international community of its responsibility to compel Israel to cease all its unilateral measures that violate international law, foremost among which are halting settlement activity, colonists' terrorism, attacks on holy sites, and the withholding of Palestinian tax funds."

President Abbas affirmed that an independent, sovereign Palestinian state is the natural partner for stability in the region, alongside the State of Israel, and that the time has come for a lasting peace that guarantees security and justice for all the peoples of the region.
