San Marino officially recognizes State of Palestine

NEW YORK, September 27, 2025 (WAFA) – San Marino announced on Saturday its official recognition of the State of Palestine.

The declaration was made by San Marino’s Foreign Minister Luca Beccari during his address to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

“We officially recognize the State of Palestine as a sovereign and independent state within secure and internationally recognized borders, in line with United Nations resolutions. Establishing a state is an inalienable right of the Palestinian people,” Beccari said.

He reiterated the call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, the release of hostages, and full, safe, and unhindered humanitarian access to affected civilians. “Nothing can justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people through indiscriminate bombardment, starvation, and displacement,” he stressed.

He warned that continued settlement expansion, including highly sensitive projects such as E1, alongside the devastation in Gaza, “threatens to erase the very possibility of peace.” Without united and determined action, he said, the vision of two peoples living side by side in dignity and security would be lost.

Beccari recalled that on May 15, San Marino’s parliament had unanimously mandated the government to recognize the State of Palestine within this year. “Today, before this Assembly, we announce the implementation of that mandate,” he declared.

“By joining today the group of states moving from words to action, San Marino intends to send a strong political and diplomatic signal: recognizing Palestine is essential to affirm that peace must be built on justice and equality,” Beccari concluded, reaffirming his country’s support for Palestine’s full UN membership.
