Ministry of Economy warns of grave consequences of Israel's closure of West Bank's only gateway to the world

RAMALLAH, September 25, 2025 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Ministry of National Economy warned on Thursday that the Israeli government's decision to close the Karama Border Crossing, the West Bank's only gateway to the outside world, indefinitely will have severe economic, social, and humanitarian repercussions.

In a statement, the ministry stressed that Karama Crossing is Palestine's only gateway to the outside world, serving as the main route for the export of Palestinian goods abroad and the import of raw materials and essential commodities.

The closure, it said, threatens Palestinian industries, agricultural products, food security, and overall trade flows, in addition to heavily restricting humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza.

The ministry described the measure as arbitrary and punitive, part of Israel’s broader policies aimed at pressuring and destabilizing Palestinian society.

It linked the closure to other forms of economic restrictions, including the withholding of Palestinian clearance revenues, and the tightening of movement across the West Bank through over 1,200 military checkpoints and iron gates.

The statement emphasized that the Palestinian government and the Ministry of Economy are in constant contact with the international community, as well as friendly and partner countries, to press Israel to reopen Karama Crossing as soon as possible, restore the flow of travelers and goods, and ease the worsening conditions created by the ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people.
