RAMALLAH, September 18, 2025 (WAFA) – Presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh expressed deep regret and astonishment on Thursday evening over the U.S. veto of a United Nations Security Council draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, despite unanimous support from the other 14 Council members.
Abu Rudeineh stressed that the draft resolution had received overwhelming backing, with 14 countries clearly demanding an immediate ceasefire and an end to the genocidal crimes being committed by Israel against the defenseless Palestinian people. “The United States chose to block the resolution using its veto power,” he said.
He warned that the U.S. veto sends a dangerous message, encouraging Israel to continue its crimes and its defiance of international law and legitimacy, including the recent advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice, which followed a UN General Assembly resolution calling for an end to the aggression, the occupation, and a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Abu Rudeineh urged the U.S. administration to reconsider its positions in order to preserve international law.
