RAMALLAH, August 30, 2025 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced on Saturday that the start of the school year has been postponed to Monday, September 8, 2025, due to the ongoing financial crisis facing the State of Palestine.
The ministry cited the impact of Israel's continued economic blockade, the withholding of Palestinian tax funds, and the resulting challenges in preparing for the new school year.
Schools in Jerusalem are exempt from the delay and will begin classes on Monday, September 1, 2025.
Since June 2025, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has frozen transfers of Palestinian clearance funds, further straining the State of Palestine's ability to operate public services. This move has disrupted preparations for the new school year.
