Israel authorities hand over body of slain Palestinian activist killed by colonist in Hebron

HEBRON, August 7, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli authorities handed over the body of slain Palestinian Odeh Muhammad al-Hathalin to his family in the city of Yatta, south of Hebron.

In a brief press release, the General Authority of Civil Affairs affirmed that al-Hathalin’s body would be transferred to his hometown of Umm al-Khair in the Masafer Yatta area, for burial in the village cemetery.

Al-Hathalin, 31, was shot and killed on Monday, July 28, 2025, by an Israeli colonist, as residents of Umm al-Khair attempted to confront a bulldozer that had entered their agricultural land accompanied by colonists.

Another Palestinian was also injured in the attack after being struck with the bulldozer’s hammer attachment.

The Israeli occupation court in Jerusalem released the colonist Yanon Levy, accused of killing activist and teacher Odeh al-Hathalin, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, placing him under house arrest.

The colonist was released despite the incident being documented on video. The colonist Levy had previously been placed on sanctions lists in Canada and Britain for his involvement in colonist violence.
