JERUSALEM, July 18, 2025 (WAFA) – Residents of a six-apartment residential building in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina began leaving their homes and moving their belongings this Friday evening in preparation to demolish the building themselves following an order from the Israeli occupation municipality in Jerusalem.
Local sources told WAFA that the Helwani family in occupied Jerusalem started emptying their residential building in Beit Hanina, preparing for self-demolition following a forced decision by the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem. The building houses 25 people, most of whom are children.
The occupation compels Jerusalem residents to demolish their own homes to avoid paying exorbitant fines and fees for the municipality’s demolition equipment, amounting to hundreds of thousands of shekels.
