Japanese PM pledges support for humanitarian aid to Gaza

TOKYO, May 28, 2025 (WAFA) – Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced on Wednesday that Japan will work to ensure humanitarian assistance reaches Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ishiba met in Tokyo with Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Ishiba emphasized the importance of creating conditions that allow aid to reach Gaza and expressed his respect for UNRWA’s efforts in supporting refugees.

Lazzarini expressed gratitude to Ishiba for the Japanese government’s efforts to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation in supporting Palestinian refugees.
